Outline of Investigation Process Flow Chart:

  1. Complaint submitted to the Department of Civil Rights and Equity Investigations.
  2. Title IX Coordinator Reviews Complaint
    • Is this a Civil Rights complaint? Are there immediate safety concerns?
      • If not, refer to alternative University Authority for review
      • If so, assign individual Case Managers to Complainant and Respondent
  3. Case Manager invites Complainant to Intake Meeting, where Case Manager reviews the following:
    • Rights, Resources and Options (RRO) of Complainant
      Investigation Process
    • Option to Request Supportive Measures and/or Academic Adjustments
    • Difference between reporting to law enforcement and university investigations
    • Right to Advisor
    • Determines jurisdiction and complaint classification
  4. Resolution
    • Informal Resolution:
      • Does Complainant wish to proceed with an Informal Investigation?
        • If the answer is “No,” the matter is closed.
        • If the answer is “Yes,” the matter is resolved informally and case is closed.
    • Formal Resolution:
      • Case Manager invites Respondent to Intake Meeting, where Case Manager Reviews:
        • Rights, Resources and Options (RRO) of Respondent
        • Investigation Process
        • Option to Request Supportive Measures and/or Academic Adjustments
        • Difference between reporting to law enforcement and university investigations
        • Right to Advisor
      • Investigation
        • Evidence collected
        • Investigation Report created
        • Statements and Evidence attached as Exhibits
        • Parties review report and exhibits
      • Decision on Responsibility and Sanctions
      • Appeal
      • Matter is closed
